Loudspeaker: Bella Luna from CD-Konzertmöbel

ONCE FOR EVER (Part II)

from Marco Kolks

Since I had the omnidirectional radiator JUPITER in my hearing room, this kind of reproduction opened new horizonts for me. Up to now, the construction as well as the effect have only been theoretically known to me. The practical experience finally teached me better. I only want to recall the principle shortly. In contrast to conventionel boxes, the sound transmitter of CD-Konzertmöbel emits the complete frequency range regularly to all directions. The share of minimally time-delayed sound reflexions which is reached by this system creates a very spatial and free sound pattern. I already comment this in detail (HE 25). Concerning BELLA LUNA it seems rather interesting to me whether the smaller model, which is more attractive concerning the price and also more suitable for ordinary living rooms, can hold a candle to her big sister. Optically it seems to be a dainty JUPITER.

The letters "CD" in the company name are standing for the two leading heads of the company, Manfred Claas (sales) and Markus Duevel (development and production). But pay attention to the fact, that this has nothing to do with digital equipment. Something is certain to me: a lot of ideal partners for the east-westphalian loudspeakers will be found in the analogue or in the tube camp. Among the transistors the complete-range amplifiers of the american producer McIntosh are the best. The emitter-line of Schäfer and Rompf, often employed as a joker, appeared, at the first trials to by opinion, too placid and could not perform the qualities of BELLA LUNA appropriately. But there are surely much more other good possibilities. For me personally all amounts to triods. The high efficiency even allows the operation with 300 B´s. A hot tip in this connection are the Beltaine-Monos of Klimo. 845 or even 211, which can contribute up to 20 Watt and which have got, even in the bass-area more thrust are also good, as well as good pentodes.

Bella Luna Lautsprecher The natural music reproduction of an omnidirectional sound source depends in the main on a phase- and time constant emittance. With the BELLA LUNA CD Konzertmöbel put a system onto the market that feels happy in large rooms as well as in small rooms. The BELLA LUNA convinces by a reproduction which is very free, completely unobtrusive and natural.

The ideal case is, when the loudspeakers have got a distance of 1,80m to 2,20m between each other and at least 50cm to the back wall. In case, this is not practicable a small wedge of foam rubber could help, which will be caught at the rear side between chassis and sound leading horn. We furthermore built up the equipment beside and not between the loudspeaker. Now the sun rises for audiophile ears. Unfortunately I will never reach this condition because of the room shapes in my house.

Although a granit plate as a basis for many boxes proved in the past, I do not recommend this for the BELLA LUNA. The sound is thinning too much. Depending of the type of floor the enclosed spikes are not always necessary. In some cases it is enough to put the loudspeaker simply onto the floor. For that a suggestion which should be easy to realize for the producer. The base plate has got four drilled holes for spikes. The adjustment by means of a precision water level may turn to a sisyphean task. A fifth thread which is placed at the rear end and in the middle of the base plate would help to manage all imaginable situations.

Just how is the BELLA LUNA differing from the JUPITER concerning the sound? The characters of the two systems are very similar. Markus Duevel therefore managed to create a nearly identical tuning on different proportions. Concerning the spatial representation, the very nice sound colours and the extreme hightness due to the construction principle they are completely similar. The bigger chassis and cabinets of the JUPITER surely give more volume. Especially the deep frequences profit from that. They come with more pressure as from the BELLA LUNA and especially big orchestras will be reproduced more realistically. The reproduction is more stable in itself. But the price is nearly as twice as high. In smaller rooms up to 16qm the BELLA LUNA turns the tables. It is the more lively and nippy representative of both. In the situation where the room sets a limit to the JUPITER and it can not develop its abilities to the full, it therefore presents itself only overdimensioned and vigorous, the BELLA LUNA demonstrates pure "liveliness". Now the optical as well as the sound proportions corresponds again. The idea of CD- Konzertmöbel is taking off successfully. As loudspeaker cables we recommend several possibilities: Fadel Art, silver cable of Acapella , Yellow and Blue of Acoustic Balance, double or triple variant of Dope sound and also Grohmann (from Oberhausen) - depending on the money available. I only want to express that this loudspeaker goes together with nearly each connection. I would not recommend the Flatlines which are very good apart from that. This combination is not advantageous and it seems that the advantageous of each component would cancel other out.

Upshot: The BELLA LUNA is a "JUPITER in miniature" with all its advantages. Concerning the construction the BELLA LUNA is defeated in several points by her sister which appears more to be an adult. But it is much more cheaper. In smaller rooms, however, it is first quality. I myself needed some time to become used to the JUPITER, to fell in love with this sound and its optical effect. Unfortunately I can not place it in my second hearing room which has got small measurements, because it is too large. And now I`ll give you three guesses who is now standing at its place?

Bella Luna Horn A downwards emitting mid-range-treble loudspeaker is situated at the bass cabinet beared by four bars. The chassis is emitting upwards. In the middle a soundleading horn which is tapered very much to the borders cares for a well-balanced distribution of the sound.
